World champ Sagan wins Stage 3 of Tour of California

Bathurst cyclist Mark Renshaw wasn't among the winning hopes towards the end of Wednesday's stage three at the Tour of California.

The Santa Barbara route was one of the numerous panoramic sections along the course during the seven-stage cycling competition.

Wolfe attacked again 11.2 miles from home but the peloton inevitably caught the group five miles from the finish to set the stage for Sagan's late burst.

Other cities to host the Tour's 1,000-person entourage include South Lake Tahoe to begin the Women's race, then over to Sacramento where the men start.

Daniel Jaramillo took the King of the Mountain jersey for the race's fastest climber during the 89.8-mile second stage, which included 9,276 feet of elevation gain and a grueling climb up Mt. Hamilton.

Bora-Hansgrohe's Majka, who has an overall lead of 2 seconds, edged out Lotto NL-Jumbo rider Bennett to win the stage while third place went to Ian Boswell of Sky and fourth to Lachlan Morton of Dimension Data.

Sears, a cyclist herself, has followed every Amgen Tour of California since its inception in 2006. "Santa Barbara is a gorgeous place, and it is a handsome setting for the start".

Motorists in Santa Clarita and Valencia could run into some road closures Wednesday as the Amgen Tour of California makes it way into Los Angeles County.

Just like Sunday, Wolfe made a break from the breakaway.

"I did this race two years ago and it was pouring the whole time and I remember it coming down to a field sprint". Second stage victor Rafal Majka retained the overall leader's yellow jersey.
