Apparently the number 4 is associated with ill omen in China, and various other smartphone brands such as Vivo and Oppo (also owned by OnePlus's parent brand) have dropped devices numbered 4.
The Verge has received exclusive confirmation from OnePlus that the OnePlus 5 is the official name of their next smartphone, and it'll be unveiled this summer.
The Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus has finally released the teaser of its upcoming smartphone on its micro-bloggnig website Weibo. If yesterday's rumor is to be believed, the OnePlus 5 will sport a dual camera setup, but with a horizontal orientation, not a vertical one. To be honest, it is the fifth handset to arrive, if we consider the OnePlus X too, so the company isn't wrong to call it the OnePlus 5. But OnePlus says that the OnePlus 5 was inspired by former National Basketball Association player Robert Horry's jersey number.
According to WCCFTech, OnePlus 5 was recently spotted listed on GearBest and Geekbuying with the complete list of possible specs and pricing details. TheVerge report claims that the company has confirmed a launch this summer and the device has also hit headlines in the form of leaks and rumours.
The smartphone will be powered by 4000 mAh non-removable battery and it will run on Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box with Oxygen OS. The front camera is mentioned as 16 MP which is essentially the same as the OnePlus 3T.
Based on the rumors so far, the OnePlus 5 is expected to to feature top-of-the-line specifications including Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 SoC.
The smartphone is expected to be released in May or June this year.
Media reports also suggest that OnePlus 5 would offer some interesting features and a few firsts in the segment. There is also a possibility that the OnePlus 5 may come in two variants, one with 6GB RAM of 128 GB ROM and another with 8GB RAM of 256 GB ROM.
