Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry lead Warriors to National Basketball Association title

It was a fitting way to win a championship. "I can't wait to celebrate for the rest of the night - well, maybe the rest of the summer".

Andre Iguodala has scored 13 of Golden State's 28 bench points to help the Warriors to a 98-93 lead heading into the final quarter. Overcame a 63-point performance from Michael Jordan in a first-round sweep of Chicago, but had to settle for beating Houston in the NBA Finals after the Rockets knocked off the hated Lakers in the West finals.

Irving and James turned back-to-back steals into impressive tone-setting layups as part of a 16-3 Cleveland run for an 20-12 edge, James hitting 4-of-5 for 10 points at the start.

All right, so the last one was never going to happen.

But as we all know, the Spurs just don't give a hoot about ratings or, for that matter, media attention of any kind.

The Warriors also did much of this without their head coach on the sideline for an extended period of this postseason. I really can't say enough about the high quality of basketball both teams played throughout most of the final series, but the Warrior's incredible deep shooting makes them perhaps the most frightening collection of basketball talent to be assembled in my memory.

During the trophy ceremony, Kerr said, "I want to say a special thank you to Mike Brown and my whole coaching staff". In the National Basketball Association, though, I doubt that argument will be accepted, and for a fact, it is suspect considering how well Golden State played this year.

In another cute moment, the National Basketball Association star kissed the Larry O'Brien Trophy as Riley used the shiny object as her own personal mirror.

"Winning is fantastic", Kerr said. Or perhaps as they coasted to 67 wins this season you were convinced that it was all over.

"It's just not my time", LeBron said.

Monday's loss denied the Cavaliers a chance to repeat as champions and for James to get his fourth championship ring.

The NBA Finals on ABC is expected to win the night across all of television for the 60th consecutive time. It also kept the Cavaliers from becoming the first team in National Basketball Association history to come back from trailing 3-0 to win a best-of-seven series.

"We left everything on the floor and it still wasn't enough", said James.

The Warriors also won titles in 1947 and 1956, when the team was based in Philadelphia, and took the crown in 1975 and 2015 after moving to the San Francisco Bay area, but had never clinched a title at home. But it just shows you how fragile the formula can be when trying to win the ultimate prize. "Because they're built for. from my eyes, they're built to last a few years".

After Durant topped the 30-point mark for the fifth time in the series to earn Finals MVP honors, all James could do was accept the loss gracefully and acknowledge Golden State as one of the greatest teams he's seen. He averaged a triple double during the NBA Finals.

In addition, with LeBron James quarterbacking the offense and the attention both he and Irving draw on drives, there's no need to be concerned about Anthony's ability to score because he'll get a lot of open shots. "So for me personally, I have no reason to put my head down". Cleveland coach Tryonn Lue, offered the opportunity to assert the Warriors' dominance, declined to do so and even quasi-implied the Cavs could have defeated the Warriors if the series had been, say, best-of-15 rather than best-of-seven.
