Fleetwood: 'Pictured winning the US Open a lot'

Postado Junho 20, 2017

All at seven under par at Erin Hills. He shot 68 and was only three back. J.B. Holmes. And Rickie Fowler.

On Saturday, the two-time major victor played like he should have been.

In fact, you have to go down to 19th place to find a victor of a major, Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer, at three under. I feel like the golf game is there, I feel like I'm playing good.

Not bad for a guy who made the cut on the number.

Make it a six-way tie atop the U.S. Open leaderboard.

Henrik Stenson (+3), Jon Rahm (+5) and Alex Noren (+6) will all be packing their bags, despite Stenson holing one of the shots of the day for eagle during round 1.

Rogness waited for the crowds to chase after the final two groups Saturday, creating enough space on a hill to the right of the second hole at Erin Hills.

He missed a five-footer for birdie on his first and then squandered another chance on 11, where he missed a 12-footer.

QUOTEWORTHY: "I'm not here on the weekend, so it's unfortunate". The only disappointment was a three-putt bogey from 35 feet on the final hole.

Said Day: "The golf course is actually really attractive. So, all in all, not bad".

Stricker, who recently turned 50, admitted the extreme length of the course - it played at 7,839 yards Friday - limits his opportunities to make birdies and therefore gain much momentum.

Casey was the only leader who went in the morning.

Casey laid up in the rough, took two chops to get out of more rough behind the 14th green, and staggered away with a triple-bogey 8 that might have ruined his day at Erin Hills. No harm, no foul. There was a slight breeze out there, and the greens were receptive if you were in the fairway. "It's got your attention on every hole, because you know if you miss the fairway, you're going to pay the price".

McIlroy was never in the short grass from the 11th hole to the end on Thursday when he opened with a career-worst 78, and he didn't do almost enough in the second round until it was far too late. "But I'm a pretty happy man". "Yeah, it was a bit of a roller coaster". I wanted to experience our first U.S. Open more than anything here in our state. 16 and 17 had been shorter and pointed to a long delay in accessing one of the remote parking lots, but overall they raved.

The U.S. Open was only his sixth start this year. His best finish was fourth in 2014 at Pinehurst. "Two yards either way, I would have been stuck". Then his game flattened out on the front nine, bogeying one and six.

In the final round at Oakmont previous year, his golf ball moved slightly as he positioned himself for a short putt on the fifth hole.

Family members say the two loved golf and traveled the country playing in couples' leagues. "I feel like that's going to help me to get back into contention and hopefully try to win some of these things". He has birdied three of his last four holes.

"Oh gosh, Jimmy, be good", he said to caddie Jimmy Johnson when the ball was in the air, and it was close to ideal.

So what's next? Will the course within 2 1/2 hours of most Chicagoans get another U.S. Open?

"There are always ups and downs out there".

"I have no expectations", he said.

"[Thursday], coming off an injury, I was a little anxious going out there, " McIlroy said.

"It's just golf and it's frustrating, but I don't let it bother me".

But that's not all that makes the possibilities so limitless Saturday. He missed the cut at last year's PGA and withdrew from this year's Masters after falling down a staircase. It's looking as if that streak could grow to seven.
