The Kansas City Royals have agreed on a contract with their 2017 MLB Draft first-round selection, first baseman Nick Pratto, the team announced on Monday.
Mike Moustakas, the Royals' current third baseman, was another high school first round selection out of Chatsworth, California, a few hours north of Huntington Beach. "The amusing thing is the pitch was above my eyes".
His eye improved considerably over the next decade, to the point where Pratto was widely considered the most polished prep hitter in last week's amateur draft.
Kansas City scout Rich Amaral has been watching Pratto ever since the youngster pulled on that first Royals jersey.
"I've seen him a long time", Amaral said.
Pratto has experience on the USA Baseball U-18 National team over the past two summers, as well as in the Little League World Series. He loves baseball. He has passion for the game. "I have no worries about his makeup". He batted.318 with seven homers and 19 RBI during his senior season at Huntington Beach High School. He signed it before the Royals opened a series against the Red Sox and then toured Kauffman Stadium, where he hopes to play in the future.
