LA Clippers take South Carolina's Thornwell in draft

Postado Junho 24, 2017

SC guard Sindarius Thornwell was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 48th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft on Thursday.

"Thornwell, 6'5", 212 pounds, finished his career at SC as a two-time SEC All-Defensive First Team honoree and ranked third in school history in scoring (1,941 points), first in games started (132), tied for fourth in games played (132), third in free throws made (570), and fourth in steals (199).

Standing around 6'5 with a 6'10 wingspan and a strong 212 frame, Thornwell has the versatility needed to become a lockdown defender capable of guarding multiple positions. But moments later, the pick was purchased by the Los Angeles Clippers. "He's just a victor".

"What we identified early on is we wanted to add tough, competitive, hard-playing, high basketball-IQ players to complement our team", Frank said.

One as a drafted player, and the other left to navigate his professional career as a free agent. Frank would not say if they had done so yet. Thornwell is going to the LA Clippers, Dozier signed a free-agent contract with the LA Lakers.

"Chris and Blake obviously are franchise players so we're going to do everything we can to put together a team that competes for championships every single year", Frank said.

Coming into the draft, Thornwell and Dozier were looked at as "mid-second round-to-late second-round picks".

While Frank said the Clippers attempted to move into the first round, he refuted reports that center DeAndre Jordan was made available in trade talks. He most recently worked with the Golden State Warriors.
