The Republic's SEA Games football team lost 0-1 to India's Under-23 side in a friendly match on Sunday (July 9) at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium.
Germanpreet Singh curled in the victor from inside the box in the 80th minute.
The two teams will again face off on 12 July.
The goal had a stamp of class written all over it. Germanpreet, who with Anirudh Thapa kept the Indian midfield mobile being perfectly aided with the flanks operating at quite a high pace, latched on a back-pass from Nanda Kumar and unleashed a left-footer digging it into the left top-corner.
"Constantine said, "[U-23 team members] have shown enough progress within such a short period and these real-time match experiences will help us tune in ahead of the Qualifiers".
This was the country's SEA Games squad's eighth loss in 10 matches since the start of the year and continues a disappointing run of form ahead of this month's Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Championship qualifiers in Yangon and the Aug 19-30 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.
The match began in a flurry with both teams not shying away from trying to seize the advantage early. The back-four, by the 10thminute itself were playing a high line as India with their relentless pressing and quick passes kept Singapore guessing.
Changing over, India attacked but had to wait till the 80th minute to break the deadlock. India could have doubled their lead in the 92nd minute but Germanpreet's shot went wide.
