Good news for penny pinchers across Western New York: gas prices have gone down one cent from last week.
The average price of gasoline in the Houston area has fallen to $2.09 a gallon, GasBuddy.com says.
Jacksonville is in the middle of the pack in terms of gas prices compared to the rest of the state. The average price in Charleston-North Charleston, the most expensive in the state, was $1.98 per gallon Monday.
In South Carolina, motorists will find the lowest gasoline prices in Columbia and Myrtle Beach, where the average cost on Monday stood at $1.93 per gallon, according to AAA.
"Gas prices could inch a little higher this week", said Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman. "Refineries are running on all cylinders, cutting into excess crude stocks". The group raised the cost of oil last fall to prop up sagging prices on the world market, but the move has had little affect in the U.S.as shale producers ramped up production.
"The increase on the retail side may only amount to as much as 5 cents by the end of the week". "While this could be the start of a gradual uptick in gas prices, drivers are likely to continue saving at the pump compared to what they paid earlier this year".
