Ed Sheeran was not prepared fro the Game of Thrones cameo backlash. "How many of you are 'Game of Thrones" fans?

And while it might seem like a coincidence, Game of Thrones Producer and Writer David Benioff confirmed that this was indeed in reference to the game.

The Castle on the Hill star took his Westeros bow as a soldier in the opening episode of season seven of Game of Thrones on Sunday night in the U.S. and, inevitably, the slings and arrows followed. The stats don't come as much of a surprise considering the massive popularity the Game of Thrones season 7 premiere. The scene depicted Sheeran's singing at a campfire, capturing the attention of Maisie Williams' character Arya Stark. Last month, Ed had spoken about the cameo on the popular show.

Ed recalled one particular incident where Lady Gaga's fans mistakenly thought he was criticising the "Million Reasons" hitmaker in an interview. Is this like the Glee Britney Spears episode?

Sheeran sang during his fleeting appearance in the death-filled episode, Dragonstone, in the first episode of the penultimate series of the TV drama.

A amusing thing happened on the way to Westeros: Just a day after Ed Sheeran's surprise cameo in the first episode of Game of Thrones Season 7, the British musician disabled his Twitter.

If you're a fan of Game Of Thrones, you'll know just how exciting the build up to the beginning of season 7 has been.

"What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED", she wrote on Instagram.

"It's a new one", Sheeran shot back, as though admonishing Arya for not checking into Westeros' Top 40 recently.
