Anne Hathaway in talks to star in Barbie, replacing Amy Schumer

The "Barbie" movie is said to be in the vein of "Splash", "Enchanted" and "Big". Pascal and husband and wife team, Walter Parkes and Lori MacDonald, will serve as producers on the film. News coming out from the studio is that the casting for the film is still premature as schedule arrangements haven't been worked out fully yet. The actress also released a statement, saying, "The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners".

However, THR now reports that the project is not only back up and running, it's got Anne Hathaway set to take over from Schumer and all.

Sony Pictures is working on developing "Barbie" which initially starred Amy Schumer as the lead.

Schumer dropped out of the project, following scheduling conflicts, which included a promotional tour for her recent comedy Snatched, as well as clashing commitments with Rebecca Miller's She Came to Me, which is now in production. The script reportedly centered around a woman who slowly realizes she doesn't quite fit in with the other Babies around her.

Sony still intends to stick to its projected June 29, 2018 release date, though it is not clear when the production would start.

The movie was to follow Barbie's journey and adventure in the real world, while promoting the message of body acceptance. She is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer.

Jones directed Fun Mom Dinner, an R-rated ensemble comedy that starred Toni Collette and Molly Shannon.

Hathaway isn't the only Oscar victor fixated on Barbie land: Reese Witherspoon has been developing a biopic about Ruth Handler, who created the famed doll in the 1950s. This might be hampered by Hathaway's schedule.
