The Coast Guard is searching for a Frenchman sailing from North Carolina to NY in his 39-foot boat Nennette after he sent a distress call on Sunday night.
A 911 call Tuesday night around 7:30 p.m. notified emergency personnel that a person in the water at the popular beach was in distress, according to the Coast Guard. "As first responders, it's always a hard decision to suspend a search".
The man was last seen swimming near Steel Pier around 10 p.m. It is unknown if he returned to land.
Coast Guard is searching for a swimmer who went missing near Steel Pier in Atlantic City at approximately 10 p.m. August 1.
NBC Bay Area reports that the effort will resume Wednesday this morning, and that "A helicopter may join the search effort Wednesday depending on visibility".
The Atlantic City Beach Patrol was also assisting, police said.
