Chandigarh stalking case: Vikas Barala, Ashish Kumar sent to judicial custody

Director General of Police, Chandigarh, Tajender Singh Luthra said "on charges of attempt to abduction the duo was arrested". The police today took the two accused at the scene of crime and reconstructed the entire sequence of events as it happened.

The footage shows the accusing walking in and out of the shop to buy liquor.

Vikas Barala, 23, and Kumar, 27, were arrested on August 5 on charges of stalking and harassing IAS officer's daughter Varnika Kundu but were granted bail the same day.

The police are taking cognizance of the video and will use it against the accused to establish the case.

The Chandigarh police had submitted an application asking for judicial remand for Barala, the son of Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party President Subhash Barala, and Kumar, for 14 days.

Refuting all the charges leveled by the victim, Barala said that he did not chase Varnika's auto. Vikas along with his friend were arrested when they appeared in Chandigarh Sector 26 Police Station after being summoned in the case on Thursday. Moreover, IPC 365 and 511 have been filed against them. The Chandigarh police produced the accused before the duty magistrate here and sought their judicial custody.

The VVIP son and his friend had earlier refused to give their blood and urine samples during the investigation after their detention. Both have admitted to have consumed beer that night when the incident took. Vikas and Ashish are now facing charges of stalking, wrongful restraint and attempt to kidnap Varnika Kundu, daughter of senior Haryana IAS officer V S Kundu.
