North Korea threatens strike on Guam

A spokesman for the Strategic Force of the Korean People's Army, or KPA, told North Korea's state-run media the KPA is "carefully examining the operational plan for making an enveloping fire at the areas around Guam with medium-to-long-range strategic ballistic rocket Hwasong-12 in order to contain the US major military bases on Guam".

Beyond the bluster, the Trump administration has been quietly engaged in back channel diplomacy with North Korea for several months, addressing Americans imprisoned in the communist country and deteriorating relations between the long-time foes, The Associated Press has learned. Japan seized it for about 2½ years during World War II.

The tiny Pacific island is a major us military hub and home to 163,000 people.

The U.S. military began rotating bombers - the B-2 stealth bomber as well as the B-1 and B-52 - to Andersen in 2004.

The ARF statement expressed "grave concern" over North Korea missile tests, including the tests of what analysts have said are intercontinental ballistic missiles.
