Philadelphia woman struck by gunfire in Northeast

- Police are investigating after a woman was shot several times inside of her own bedroom.

The in ident happened just after midnight Saturday on the 8500 block of Summerdale Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.

The woman had heard something outside and noticed that a screen had been opened so she closed it and laid back down, police said.

An officer was also injured in the incident because a police dog misunderstood a command and mistakenly bit her.

Police say the woman called 9-1-1 and waited for police to arrive. Investigators say the woman is in stable condition.

The victim works as a security guard at a courthouse but had no previous issues that would draw attention or give reason for her to be targeted, Fuchs said.

According to police, there were two men in a van going door to door asking about a local vehicle mechanic, but it's unclear if the activities are related.
