He explained that the party in its wisdom chose to zone the position of national chairman to the south because the north would produce the presidential flag bearer.
Northern leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday insisted that their zone must produce the presidential candidate of the party in the 2019 general elections.
While some of the leaders advocated sanctions against the governor for disobeying the party's zoning arrangement, others argued that in as much as zoning of the two key offices has been endorsed, those who wish to try their luck would be allowed to do so.
Fayose, who is from the southern part of Nigeria, recently declared his intention to contest for the PDP's presidential ticket though it had been zoned to the North.
He said the recent declaration by Fayose to vie for the party's presidential ticket was of no outcome. The Supreme Court, in affirming the authenticity of the caretaker committee, has also affirmed the decisions of the convention.
He said he was happy that the Supreme Court had affirmed the powers of the party's national convention to take decisions on behalf of the party.
On the zoning of the Presidency to the North, Makarfi reiterated the commitment of the party to honouring the agreement.
"As for the issue of micro zoning, I believe that what is required in both the South and North is consultation. You have to sell your candidacy, it is not a matter of they should give it to me because I am from South West, you must be acceptable to the generality of the party".
"While zoning has been recognized by the convention, micro zoning is not binding on any member".
"That is why I am saying consultation is the best way of build consensus on any issue. The party has been promoting consultation and consensus as the way forward". That is why we need to be very cautious. I am confident that we will get to a level where we can deepen consensus. "If we have overwhelming consensus PDP will come out of the convention with less crisis and we will be home and dry".
While Ladoja agreed with the position that the zone has never produced the chairmanship position of the party and now is the best opportunity, he also urged them to be careful and put up behavior that shows that they are prepared for the position.
"At the end of this meeting we must come up with a decision that the north is capable of producing legitimate president for the country by 2019".
"We want to avoid the emergence of persons with corruption or questionable character to ascend the mantle of PDP leadership again".
Jibrin maintained that with the array of leaders from the Northern region, decisions taken there will be binding.
"We must be able to take a decision that will be acceptable to the North and the country", he added. "I am sure we will deal with him seriously in this meeting".
Jerry Gana, advised the party to elect the best candidates in accordance with its zoning formula.
Based on this, he said that those interested in elective positions should not be barred from doing so provided that the zoning formula would be respected. "The person for presidential ticket that will emerge must come from the three zones of the North". "Today, it is said that the position is zoned to the South, or South West, wherever it is zoned to, that is what they should do".
"Let us therefore give to the party, men and women of impeccable integrity".
He said, "Let us stop these mini meetings. If we don't vote the Southwest, we can as well forget the PDP".
Present at the meeting are the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi; Representatives of Senate and House of Assembly caucuses, former governors, among many others.
"Zoning and rotation are part of the PDP Constitution". We must adhere to them if we are to keep this party alive.
"There are people who are bent on contesting whether the office is zoned to their place or not". We must discuss with the South so that anybody who goes against zoning can be punished. "We can not afford to have people come to the convention and make a fool of themselves and ridicule the party", he said.
