RCMP are reporting they are on the scene of an ongoing investigation in the Maidstone Detachment area this morning. Officers are still searching for a second man, who investigators believe is travelling on foot.

According to the RCMP news release, the situation began last night in the Edmonton Police Service and Alberta RCMP area, and the individuals involved may be armed and are considered risky.

RCMP said a Black Chrysler 300 with a Saskatchewan licence plate was stolen, and both cars fled the scene.

A man was shot in the shoulder and neck.

Around the same time, RCMP officers were responding to a report of shots fired in Alberta's Sherwood Park, at the Holiday Inn Express on Broadmoor Boulevard.

Police said he was conscious and was taken to Edmonton's Royal Alexandria Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

About five minutes later, another armed carjacking occurred at the Flying J gas station.

A black Ford Fusion was later found engulfed in flames on Highway 16 at Range Road 195.

RCMP said the Chrysler 300 was seen speeding through the Vegreville area and was later found in Saskatchewan.

At least two schools in the area - Chief Little Pine School and Chief Poundmaker School - are on lockdown, according to the Little Pine First Nation band office.

No charges have been laid. People are being asked to report any suspicious activity, vehicles or persons in the Maidstone area to police immediately.

RCMP say a suspect armed with a shotgun was involved in a carjacking at this gas station early Friday.
