This is Lee's first TV series. But there's a almost unnoticeable adjustment there - the new Netflix trailer dubs Lee when he says "film" with the word "show".
Spike Lee's Netflix series She's Gotta Have It, based on his 1986 movie of the same name, has been anticipated with some hesitancy. For those of you unfamiliar with the storyline, Nola is juggling three different relationships with three completely different men who all have something to offer. She's also got her art, her friends, and her internal world, which seems to be a vivid place. DeWanda Wise's Nola Darling throws around terms like "sex-positive polyamorous pansexual", which firmly places the series in the here and now - as does the story's exploration of hook-up culture and career-oriented women.
Who is Nola Darling? Nola's three Lovers: Greer Childs played by Cleo Anthony (Divergent), Jamie Overstreet played by Lyriq Bent (The Book of Negroes), and Mars Blackmon played by Hamilton alum Anthony Ramos are also introduced.
Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee serve as creators and executive producers of the series through their 40 Acres production company.
She's Gotta Have It hits Netflix in its entirety on 23 November.
