Sebastian Kennett, 20, had been on the run since allegedly hitting Lynda Hansen, 53, in southeast Melbourne on Monday.

Residents who heard a loud bang went outside and pulled Ms Hansen from her auto, but she died at the scene.

Kennett was arrested along with two other men at a home on Fulton Road in Blackburn South on Thursday evening.

"[She was] a family orientated person... she was a compassionate cardiac nurse at a large private hospital and was excited to be commencing a new position within the hospital in the next week", her family said in a statement.

The man has been charged with culpable driving, risky driving causing death, failure to stop after a collision with a fatality, failure to render assistance after a fatal collision, theft of a motor vehicle and driving while disqualified.

He will face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday.

They said Ms Hansen led a "dedicated spiritual life", loved yoga, sang in a gospel choir and enjoyed overseas travel and caring for her elderly mother.
