Discovery Communications and German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 have joined forces to launch a premium streaming service for the German market.
They say the initiative defines a new way for media companies to bring their content to fans across all screens and new opportunities for advertisers to reach viewers.
Prosieben.Sat.1 already runs the 7TV platform and brand, and from today will carry a range of linear channels from ProSieben and Discovery, who plan to recruit a CEO to run the streaming service, which is available over the top, and via a dedicated app. It has already launched content and channels on Amazon in Germany.
The service, unveiled at MIPCOM on Monday, will aggregate content from ProSieben's bouquet of German networks - including Pro7, Sat.1, Kabel Eins, Sixx, Maxx, Sat.1 Gold and Kabel Eins Doku with Discovery's free-to- air channels DMAX and TLC in Germany. Eurosport notably holds the rights to top German and global football leagues, for which Discovery has developed its own premium streaming service. "A new joint technology development for a pioneering streaming service is underway and we look forward to an exciting 2018, when we enter the next phase".
A search is now under way for a CEO to run the streaming service and an announcement will be made soon. SevenOne Media, the media sales house of ProSiebenSat.1, will be responsible for digital advertising inventory for the joint venture.
