Season-opener vs. Knicks to help Thunder's Carmelo Anthony 'close that chapter'

Carmelo Anthony took some time before he eventually waived his no-trade clause and included the Oklahoma City Thunder on his list of possible destinations.

"My son said he wanted me to play for OKC, even before OKC was in the picture". There were things being said about me that I didn't know where they were coming from. Anthony told Marc Stein of The New York Times that his son preferred the Thunder as his next team even as trade speculation involving the Knicks and Rockets dragged on.

Anthony also points out how uncomfortable it was to go to practice every day and talk to the media after all the public criticism he was facing. He was "being pushed out" and there was "no support from the organization".

The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired Anthony during the offseason following a rough finish to his days in NY. "When you feel like you're on your own and then on top of that you feel like you're being pushed out".

Carmelo Anthony's first regular-season game with the Thunder will be against an organization he represented for several seasons, but he's still not exactly happy about how his time with the Knicks came to an end.

Still, as the start of Knicks training camp approached in September, there was no trade yet in sight and it was at that stage that Anthony abruptly instructed family members and his agent, Leon Rose, to "take the geography out of it" and start suggesting anywhere to play in the N.B.A. that made sense.

"My son has a basketball mind", he continued. He was like, 'Dad, where you getting traded to?' I told him, 'I don't know, where do you think I should go?' He said: 'You really want me to give you my opinion? "I don't think that chapter has been closed yet".
