Margot Robbie is going for gold in the first full-length, red-band "I, Tonya" trailer. "My entire life, I've been told I wouldn't amount to anything". Based on this excellent trailer, I have a feeling this could end up as one of my favorites.
As Harding, Robbie also asserts that the American people want someone to love and someone to hate. Her naivety suggests she's a victim of her mother and husband's manipulations and hones in on her unorthodox upbringing; when someone tries to give Harding advice about the media, she reminds him, "I don't have a wholesome American family".
As soon as Margot Robbie grabbed Hollywood's attention with her memorable performance in The Wolf of Wall Street, film fans knew that her career was bound for bigger things. Later, Harding's ex-husband (played by Sebastian Stan) was revealed to have organized the "hit". Harding's involvement would eventually lead to her being stripped of her 1994 national title and banned for life from the figure skating world.
Craig Gillespie directs the dark comedy, which debuted at the Toronto Film Festival. It debuts in NY and Los Angeles on December 8. Paul Walter Hauser, Julianne Nicholson, Bojana Novakovic, and Bobby Cannavale also appear in the movie.
