Authorities in Florida say a woman has confessed to killing her 4-year-old daughter and placing her body in a dumpster.
The girl's mother, 31-year-old Tina Farrington, was held without bond Monday at the Miami-Dade County jail on a first-degree murder charge.
The Herald reported that Farrington filed a restraining order against Paige, claiming that he beat their son with a belt and sent him to day care with knots on his head.
An arrest report says Farrington suffocated Tania with a pillow on Halloween after becoming angry with the girl. At 1 a.m. on Sunday, police said Farrington removed her daughter's body and threw it in the trash.
Investigators say that last Tuesday, Farrington got upset when her daughter talked back to her.
Police said Farrington hid Tania's body in the trunk of her 2013 Nissan for several days until she noticed a foul odor.
Police said the son was apparently unharmed.
Police found bruises to the girl's arms, legs and torso, according to the report.
Colome said the girl was between 3 and 8 years old.
Of note, Farrington didn't have an extensive criminal history, save a 2008 arrest for disorderly conduct for getting into a wild brawl at Mango's Tropical Cafe in South Beach. "We knew she was there because her vehicle was there", one woman said.
"We are disgusted and devastated by the death of this innocent girl". 'DCF has opened a child death investigation to review all circumstances that led to this tragedy and will assist police in any possible way to hold anyone responsible accountable for this heinous act'.
At the time of the murder, Farrington and the children's father, Miami Beach Officer Leon Paige, were embroiled in a contentious legal dispute in Miami-Dade circuit court, court records show.
