Amazon Sells Physical Assets to Sinnet

Beijing Sinnet Technology will buy Amazon's web services business in China for up to R4.4 billion, reported Reuters.

They also stated that they remain fully committed to ensuring Chinese customers will keep on receiving AWS' industry leading cloud services, adding that AWS continues to own the intellectual property for AWS Services worldwide.

"AWS continues to own the intellectual property for AWS Services worldwide".

TechCrunch contacted Amazon for comment but did no hear back at the time of writing.

Financial newswires report that AWS' local partner, Beijing Sinnet, has acquired Amazon's local operations for about US$300m, with news of the deal appearing as a filing on the Shenzen Stock Exchange on Monday.

The cloud-computing group has also controlled more than 40 percent of the global market for public cloud services during that year.

In August 2016, Amazon signed a deal to let Chinese tech firm Sinnet operate services provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in China.

However, Amazon and other USA tech companies have been put under pressure in China to meet the government's need to further increase control over its already tight internet conditions.

The country's laws also make companies liable for content considered unsafe or offensive to socialist values.
