The State government on Tuesday announced Nandi film awards for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016. This is the actor's first Nandi award.
The Nandi State Film Awards in total hands out awards in 64 categories for films, theatre and television mediums. The actor, who did two Telugu movies past year - Manamantha and Janatha Garage, was adjudged the best supporting actor for his role in the latter. Ardha Naari and Manalo Okadu won the awards for being second and third best films of 2016. Among his contemporary heroes, he is the only star who received such large number of Nandi's. Boyapati Srinu has been chosen as the Best Director of 2014 for Legend; S.S. Rajamouli, of 2015, for his movie Bahubali; and Satish Vegesna, of 2016, for Sathamanam Bhavati.
Later, we could see Megastar Chiru, Krishnam Raju, R Narayana Murthy and Suddala Ashok Teja also given some awards, which in a way honored all the corners of Telugu Film Industry. Pellichoopulu's Ritu Varma bagged the honour for the 2016. As expected, Baahubali: The Beginning was adjudged the Best Film of the year 2015. Sathish Vegesna, who directed the film Shatamanam Bhavathi, won the big award for the year 2016. The award also helped him to equal Prakash Raj's record of top Indian actor with maximum national film awards (5 awards).
Naga Chaitanya won the title for the year 2014 for his performance in the film Manam. While most of the awards were bagged by Telugu industry members, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal too won an award to his kitty. K. Raghavendra Rao won the award for the year 2015, while Rajinikanth bagged the award for the year 2016. Raghupathi Venkiah award is the highest award for individual life time achievement in Telugu cinema.
