Barcelona ace Messi: Argentina needs Higuain

Postado Dezembro 07, 2017

Lionel Messi has defended Gonzalo Higuain, claiming the Juventus striker is one of the best in the world and deserves to be in the Argentina squad.

Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli has overlooked Higuain since a 1-0 win over Brazil in June, meaning he has missed his country's last seven matches. "He has to be there because he is key". Although Higuain is a regular scorer at club level, he has rarely reproduced that same form on the global stage, particularly in big matches. "I think this time away from the national side has done him good and judging by the times we spoke, it has made him see things differently", Messi said. Argentina, who have not won a major worldwide trophy since lifting the Copa America in 1993, were last week drawn in Group D for next year's World Cup finals in Russian Federation, alongside Nigeria, Croatia and Iceland. They won the tournament in 1978 and 1986.

"He is one of the best strikers in the world", messi told TyC. I think this period off global duty was good for him, though, as he has been able to focus on training and improving his fitness levels.

Higuain has nine goals and three assists in 13 Serie A starts for Juventus, who are in third place in the table in Italy, two points behind leaders Inter.
