But it was the caption he added that got people talking, the England global poking fun at his own injury record by writing: "Positive week, managed to get through 20 minutes of ice skating without getting injured".
England global Wilshere, whose career has been ravaged by injury problems over recent years, poked fun at his fitness record in an Instagram post of him skating on Tuesday.
Hailing from Strasbourg, the eastern French city noted for its proximity to ski resorts, Wenger is well versed in such winter past-times and did have a word or two of caution for Wilshere.
When asked about it, Wenger said: 'It's not ideal, honestly, but for your balance it is not bad. "For a footballer I don't think it's great - it depends what you do".
'I don't know exactly [what he did on the ice]. Ice skating violently, I don't think he did that'.
Wilshere has played a full part in four of Arsenal's five Europa League matches, but he has been used for a combined 65 minutes in the Premier League this term.
"We missed an opportunity on Saturday [the 3-1 home loss against Manchester United] to take advantage of that because we were physically quite strong in the game".
He said: "Of course I want to be playing".
Wenger added: "They have been absolute outstanding, I must say".
"It's hard when you play every three weeks".
