John Conyers Son and Heir Apparent Arrested for Felony Domestic Violence

John Conyers III, a Detroit hedge fund manager possibly contending for his father's vacant Congress seat, was cuffed at a Los Angeles residence on February 15, according to case paperwork obtained by the Daily News.

The report also said there are 911 tapes that reflect John Conyers III and his girlfriend screaming at each other during a pitched physical battle.

Documents obtained by The Associated Press on Wednesday show John Conyers III's girlfriend had a small cut to her arm.

The district attorney's office concluded it "could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the victim's injury was not accidentally sustained" while Conyers was disarming his girlfriend, read paperwork from the case, according to NBC's reporting.

She tried to call police when Conyers III grabbed the phone and chased her.

John Conyers III, son of disgraced former Rep. John Conyers Jr., allegedly body-slammed his girlfriend and then spat on her during a domestic dispute, according to a new report.

Records say the woman grabbed a knife to protect herself, but he disarmed her and slapped her before a second struggle for the knife in which the woman was cut.

When Conyers announced his retirement Tuesday morning on a Detroit radio station, he made it clear he wants his son, John Conyers III, to take his place. He said they started becoming aggressive with each other, and that she threatened him with the knife.

John Conyers III, who was endorsed by the Michigan Democrat and most senior member of the House of Representatives, once attempted to be a rap artist, bragging in songs about drug-dealer friends and a father who "is a f***ing player".

The congressman's son was taken into custody and then released instead of having to pay the $50,000 bail.

Conyers III, however, says he is unsure if he'll run for his father's congressional seat. Ian Conyers, the grandson of Conyers' brother, told The New York Times that he plans to run for his great-uncle's seat.

His endorsement cast a bright spotlight on John Conyers III, and some alleged violence and driving issues have come to light.

John Conyers III has lived at his parents' house in Detroit over the years and has also lived in Los Angeles.

Speaking to reporters last week after the allegations against his father emerged, Conyers III said, "With sexual assault, women are to be believed".
