The Chic co-founder said doctors had discovered a "mysterious growth" on his right kidney that turned out to be "two different cancers within one mass".
Legendary producer and CHIC guitarist Nile Rodgers has shared that he expects to make a "100% recovery" after having cancer surgery earlier this year.
The 65-year-old was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in 2010 but got the all-clear in 2013.
"One of my greatest artists, David Bowie, died at the top of 2016; a few months later, Prince passed away; and then George Michael died Christmas Day, 48 hours after I'd just worked on his film and worked on his last record", he said. "After the last seven years of incredible life, I would have never believed that my body would be invaded by another cancer", he writes. Rodgers did not reveal why he was admitted to the hospital and it is unclear if it was connected to his new diagnosis or his bout with E. Coli.
After performing in Brooklyn on 2 November, he flew to Rochester in upstate NY and had the carcinogenic mass removed the following day.
"Cancer, really? I'm done", he concluded in a lengthy post that he also read out in an accompanying video. According to a recent blog post, things were a bit more troubling than fans knew.
The funk and soul legend is now preparing for his New Year's Eve gig at London's Westminster Central Halls.
