WITH the year almost done Apple has picked out what it thinks are the best apps and games of 2017, highlighting one app and one game for iPhone and the same for iPad, a technology site, techrader reported. On the iPad, professional photo editing app Affinity Photo has been named App of the Year, with Jonathan Blow's The Witness winning Game of the Year; on the iPhone, Apple Design Award 2017 victor Splitter Critters was also named Game of the Year, while meditation and relaxation app Calm was chosen as the App of the Year.
On the iPhone front Calm won app of the year.
Rather interestingly, the game of the year choices for iPhone and iPad are not freemium titles. On the other hand, Pritam's "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", from the movie of the same title that was released last year, topped the tag of album of the year. In India, the top movie of the year have been bagged by last year's Dear Zindagi followed by Sully and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (Hindi) and Raees. The game is available for free. The most downloaded apps include Bitmoji, Snapchat, YouTube, Messenger, Instagram and Facebook.
On Apple Music, Drake tops album of the year with "More Life", while Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" gets top song honors. Apple Music Up Next 2017 artists Khalid, Daniel Caesar and 6LACK all earned GRAMMY nominations as part of their success this year.
Apple also listed the top movies in the Apple Store, with Disney's Moana ranks first followed by Wonder Woman, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the third spot.
There's some predictable overlap between the two tech titans' lists of 2017 top sellers, as Game of Thrones, for instance, dominates both Apple and Google's latest yearly TV show charts.
