More than $350,000 dollars for 399 rifle resistant, body armor vests are headed to law enforcement agencies in the Brazos Valley. In Harris County, deputies and deputy constables will get just over $3 million for those life-saving vests. See a full list of agencies and the number of vests received below.
Funding for the grant program was created by Senate Bill 12, authored by Sen.
"The job of our law enforcement community is becoming more hard as the threats our officers face continue to increase", said Governor Abbott.
"The law also provides more resources and tools to better protect our law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line by providing them the rifle-resistant vests that would have protected them in the sniper-type attack that occurred in downtown Dallas a year-and-a-half ago", the governor said.
