College basketball: Minnesota's Lynch 'categorically and vehemently' denies allegations

Postado Janeiro 12, 2018

The Gophers' athletic department suspended Lynch indefinitely, but he was not kicked off the team.

The report made public Tuesday means Lynch is accused in three separate sexual assaults in April and May of 2016. He was never criminally charged in the case, and the EOAA cleared him. The other two allegations stem from the same month.

He said he could not say when each was reported to the school, but said the first meeting with the EOAA for each case was in October of 2017.

"Any option is on the table right now", Pacyga said.

Pacyga said that because Lynch is a popular athlete, it's hard for him to recall interactions that occurred 18 months ago, and repeatedly questioned why the accusers didn't immediately make reports.

The lawyer for Minnesota basketball standout Reggie Lynch says Lynch "categorically denies" allegations of sexual misconduct lodged against him by two women.

"I'm appalled and traumatized by how casually Ryan Pacyga discussed the details of one of the worst nights of my life, with no respect for me as a victim-or any regard for how this would impact me", she wrote.

The 23-year-old Minnesota native was suspended from the basketball program and banned from the school's Minneapolis campus until August 1, 2020 last week following an investigation by the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Office that started in the fall, per Scott Gleeson of USA Today.

Lynch, however, has already filed notice that he will appeal the recommendations to the Student Sexual Misconduct Subcommittee (SSMS).

"There might be a little bit of a hysteria going on in our rush and our desire to correct prior wrongs and our increased awareness of sexual assault", Pacyga said. "Because accusers came forward after 18 months, there's no way to collect and test evidence".

Via rape survivor and activist Abby Honold, a former University of Minnesota student, the victim in that alleged incident released a statement blasting Pacyga for a violation of privacy. "Reggie Lynch has been robbed of that opportunity". "But anytime someone is dealing with allegations and saying "I didn't do this" and you're accused in such a serious situation, I think anyone would feel victimized by that". "Lynch is indicating that there was no sexual contact whatsoever", Pacyga said Wednesday.

Lynch started his college basketball career at Illinois State in 2013.

The Edina, Minn., native practiced with the team on Monday.
