While sympathizing with the families of those that were massacred in the attacks, as well as those who were injured and the displaced, Udende charged them to remain calm as the Benue state government, in collaboration with stakeholders in the state, were doing everything humanly possible with the view to protecting them from further attacks and to also ensure justice for victims of this act of cruelty.
"We are capable of raising a million people to defend our land if nothing is done to stop the killings".
Unongo recalled that a good number of Benue indigenes sacrificed their lives for the country during the Nigerian civil war.
The Nigerian National Flag is flying at half mast in Benue state, north-central Nigeria as the bodies of seventy-three people killed by Armed Fulani Herdsmen in the last one week are buried.
He added that reports showed that the spillover attacks in some communities of Benue had led to the displacement of so many people in the border towns between the two states.
He urged sons and daughters of the state to rally round the governor for the successful enforcement of the anti-open grazing law.
He appealed to the government at the centre to replicate Operation Python Dance or Fulani Dance in Benue as being done in other states of the federation.
He assured the United Nations would further discuss the details of the assistance with the Benue governor and prayed for peace in the state.
The representative of the United Nations, Dr Mathins Ejibike, in his condolence message to the government and people of the state, said killings in Benue required worldwide attention.
"We want an enlightened approach to this matter".
Earlier in his funeral oration, the Catholic Bishop of Gboko Diocese, Most Rev. Williams Avenya, prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead and called for prayers for the survivors of the attacks.
"We must put an end to these killings".
"The youths he (Ortom) misled with the uniform of Livestock Guards, after signing the law, brazenly went on an extortion spree against herders while not a few of them appropriated the said law to engage in cattle rustling", the President said. We will not be deterred because I am ready to pay the supreme price for the implementation of the anti-open grazing law.
Ayatse said the herdsmen have attacked Benue 47 times in five years, attacks, saying the attacks were akin to an agenda of genocide. "I will continue to insist on the arrest of the factional leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Houre".
The group also demanded that the federal government orders a full investigation into the activities of Benue State Sponsored Civillian Joint Task Force (CJTF) identified to be in the middle of recent crisis between herdsmen and Farmers in Benue State.
He said the suggestions were not acceptable to the Benue people.
