Thursday, the Huntsville City Council approved a $320 million local incentive package for the plant. Production is scheduled to start by 2021.
That announcement is expected to be made Wednesday afternoon in Alabama.
Alabama's total incentive package to Toyota and Mazda will top $700 million after local incentives are added to what the state offered to land the companies' new USA factory. Toyota executives and Alabama Governor Kay Ivey are slated to attend that announcement, sources said.
"Toyota and Mazda announce giant new Huntsville, Alabama, plant which will produce over 300,000 cars and SUV's a year and employ 4000 people", Trump said on Twitter.
Toyota and Mazda will join Mercedes, Honda and Hyundai in operating factories in Alabama. "Alabama is already home to hundreds of our team members who build 700,000 engines per year for North American vehicles at our plant in Huntsville".
"This project will really put Alabama at the center of the Southern automotive industry", Canfield said.
The plant will make the Toyota Corolla sedan and a new Mazda crossover.
