As Kate toured the Academy, her husband was following in the steps of his mother by watching operations at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Kate joined delegates during a coffee break at the event in east London, run by the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families (AFNCCF), a mental health charity she supports as patron.

The Duchess of Cambridge sympathised with teenagers about the addictive nature of social media, as she visited a charity providing mental health services to schools.

The pregnant royal dressed beautifully for the occasion - her first appearance of the year, just a day after her birthday - in a double-breasted navy Hobbs coat and matching suede Jimmy Choo shoes.
