The expletive President Trump used last week in a discussion about immigration in the Oval Office and other slogans were projected Saturday night onto an outer wall of the Trump International Hotel in downtown Washington.
Video posted on Twitter shows the words "This Place is a Shithole" projected onto the walls of the hotel Saturday night, alongside poop emojis, and an arrow pointing at the establishment's arched entrance.
The display was the work of artist Robin Bell, the founder of video projection company Bell Visuals, who has previously projected wording critical of the president onto the hotel.
After lawmakers raised the issue of protections for immigrants from African nations, Haiti and El Salvador, the president reportedly demanded to know why the United States should accept immigrants from "sh-thole countries", rather than - for instance - wealthy and overwhelmingly white Norway.
Bell has been described by The Washington Post as a "hit-and-run editorial writer".
The Washington Post saw the posted photographs but did not actually see the words at the time they were projected. He was interviewed afterwards.
