Known for products like the famous Willys, the Wrangler and in India recently for the Compass, Jeep has some very iconic products across its portfolio. It will come in as Jeep's only 7-seat offering, wearing a similar design as the popular Grand Cherokee, as previewed by patent images past year that were thought to represent the Wagoneer.
At this stage, however, it appears that the new Grand Commander you see here is a China-only deal - with the rest of the world instead tipped to get a reincarnated Jeep Wagoneer (and larger Grand Wagoneer twin) around the end of this decade.
"[It] will be available to customers in China in the first half of 2018". While the U.S. won't be getting the Jeep Grand Commander, it could serve as a preview for the upcoming Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer rumored to arrive in 2020 as America's large SUV equivalent.
Despite being spied testing on Australian roads recently (below), the Grand Commander looks set to be an exclusively Chinese-market proposition.
The new Grand Commander has taken design inspiration from the current Grand Cherokee while showcasing a slightly more luxurious and grander evolution. The new Jeep Grand Commander will also be taking on the upcoming BMW X7 SUV along with competition like the Lincoln Navigator and the Cadillac Escalade.
