Deadline reports that Dobrev will star in a new CBS comedy pilot called Fam as Clem, a woman whose life is upended when her younger half-sister Shannon and Shannon's fiancee come to live with her to escape their train-wreck of a father.
Should Fam go to series, it would be Dobrev's first broadcast regular role since she exited The CW's Vampire Diaries after a six-season run.
Clem is described as "grounded, deeply amusing, quick-witted and outspoken", and also a bit of a charmer. The Bulgarian-born Canadian actress proven her drama chops on The Vampire Diaries and The Final Girls, while showing off her comedic skills in everything from Lets Be Cops to Workaholics. She is a real charmer who is ecstatic when Jay, the love of her life, proposes. In a bid to be the best version of herself, she claims that her estranged father, Freddy Banks, is dead when he is very much alive. However, when her half-sister Shannon shows up at her doorstep unexpectedly, Clem's lie is revealed and it might end her relationship with Jay. Her film credits include XXX: Return of Xander Cage, Flatliners, Crashpad and the upcoming indies Dog Days, Departures and Lucky Day. For Clem, he is an embarrassment that is why she needs to lie about his death.
Fam also stars Odessa Adlon as Clem's disastrous younger sister and Tony victor Brian Stokes Mitchell as her successful future father-in-law. Renowned comedy TV director Scott Ellis (30 Rock, Frasier, and Modern Family) will direct the pilot. She is repped by CAA and Lighthouse Management and Media.
