Scotty Hamilton was killed after responding to a call with Kentucky State Police in the Hurricane community around 11:30 p.m., the city said.
According to officials, Police Officer Scotty Hamilton was shot and killed in the line of duty. After speaking to the people in the vehicle, the officers decided to make a quick search around the area and a nearby residence to check for any questionable subjects on foot. The trooper, who had separated from Hamilton, found Hamilton dead. LEX 18 will not release the name of the suspect until troopers provide that information. Law enforcement agencies including the Kentucky State Police, the KSP Special Response Team and the Pikeville Police Department were "actively searching for possible suspects" as of Wednesday afternoon. According to officials, Hamilton was a part of the Pikeville Police Department since 2006.
