Russian Federation condemns attack on Syria

Syria ally Russian Federation has warned of "consequences" following the launch of US-led strikes against Bashar al-Assad's regime in retaliation for a suspected chemical attack.

"A pre-designed scenario is being implemented", Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said on Twitter.

The world leaders announced that the strikes targeted positions linked to the chemical weapons facilities of the Syrian government.

"Again, we are being threatened".

The Russian Ambassador to the USA has warned of "consequences" after the United States and its allies launched a coordinated military action against Syria.

Russia should sell its S-300 air defense systems to Iran, North Korea and Syria, simultaneously training these countries' servicemen to use the weapon, Alexander Sherin, first deputy chairman of the Russian parliament's lower house defense committee, told Sputnik on Saturday.

"The US - the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons - has no moral right to blame other countries".

Moscow also said it was calling an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, where it is a permanent member, to discuss the "aggressive actions" of the USA and its allies.

Syria's seven-year-old civil war has pitted the United States and its allies against Russian Federation, which itself intervened in the war in 2015 to back Assad.

Despite repeated warnings from Russia, US President Donald Trump has ordered American forces, along with their British and French allies, to strike military targets in Syria on Friday night. "We are prepared to sustain this response until the Syrian regime stops its use of prohibited chemical agents", Trump said.
