La Liga round-up: Atletico Madrid cruise to win over Levante

The France international's fierce strike from Sime Vrsaljko's volleyed cross saw him on the scoresheet for a fourth successive league outing, while also taking his tally for the season to 26 in all competitions.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone heaps praise on departing striker Fernando Torres, who netted his 100th La Liga goal in the 3-0 win over Levante.

After scoring his first Real goal in nine appearances against his former club, Isco held his hands up apologetically, and he enjoyed a warm reception from the Malaga fans when substituted in the second half.

The 34-year-old Torres announced on Monday that his second stint with Atletico was nearing its end. "He's earned this status and respect through hard work. That will not change because of one more goal".

Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague has provided three reasons Arsenal will not beat Atletico Madrid in their Europa League semi-final.

"Fernando is an icon here", Atletico coach Diego Simeone said. "We will try to get closer to them and if we can't get closer, we will congratulate them".

Simeone's side now face Real Sociedad on Thursday and Real Betis on Sunday before the first leg at Emirates Stadium but they arrived here with only two wins from their last five matches. It promises to be a long farewell.

Atletico felt aggrieved they were not afforded the opportunity to double their lead from the spot in the closing minutes of the opening half, referee Jesus Gil Manzano not only dismissing the strong appeal for a penalty but also carding Griezmann for what he considered to be a dive.

The Spaniard is unlikely to face Arsenal but Griezmann nearly certainly will and his goal was his 19th in La Liga this season, coming without Diego Costa, who is still nursing a thigh strain.

Fernando Torres, who is set to leave Atletico at the end of the season, was introduced just after the hour mark.
