Manchester City confirmed as champions as rivals United lose

Foster has spent the last eight years of his career in the West Midlands with Birmingham City and current club West Bromwich Albion but between 2005 and 2010, the former England stopper was contracted to United.

Winning the title with five matches to go makes City the joint earliest champions in the Premier League era - matching the achievement of the 2000-01 Manchester United team.

A number of stars are expected to be axed, including Smalling, Luke Shaw, Phil Jones, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind.

The setup provided Pogba more creative freedom and showed the damage he could do with such license in the derby win.

"We've won you the league, Manchester City, we've won you the league", sang West Brom's fans near the end of the game.

The 24-year-old, meanwhile, has gone from strength to strength following his stint at West Brom, enjoying a goal-laden spell with Everton before joining Manchester United last summer in a deal worth a reported £75million plus add-ons.

Ultimately, Rodriguez was the hero for West Brom - and City.

Jay Rodriguez proved to be the most unlikely of title-deciders when he stooped low to head the Baggies in front on 73 minutes.

West Brom need to overcome a 12-point deficit to catch those outside the relegation zone, and with only five games remaining, achieving that will depend on whether those teams above them suffer a major collective calamity before all is said and done. They have dropped a league-high 26 points from winning positions this season. The Northern Irishman attracted interest from the Premier League giants in January, but neither managed to reach a transfer agreement with the west Midlands club.

Manchester United have only ever lost one Premier League game at Old Trafford to a side that began the day bottom of the table, to Blackburn in December 2011. I just hope they don't go down and that they can learn from the mistakes that they made in the pre-season or whatever.

"They won because they were the best team, they lost only a few points".

"Last season we finished sixth and this season we are going to finish I believe fourth, third or second - hopefully second - and next season we are going to try and improve but let's see what happens".
