A ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the new US embassy in Jerusalem is being planned for mid-May.

Israel's Independence Day marks the day in which David Ben-Gurion, Israel's first prime minister, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.

Forty ambassadors to the United Nations, representing a quarter of the countries with diplomatic ties to Israel, are visiting the Jewish state this week as the country celebrates its 70th anniversary.

On Wednesday, the president sent his best wishes to Israeli Prime Minister for the 70th anniversary of the country's independence. "We are greatly looking forward to your moving the embassy to Jerusalem, Israel's eternal capital", he tweeted.

Sputnik has looked through the milestones of Israel's history over seventy years.

Sullivan said Israel and the United States had an unshakeable bond that had endured and grown even stronger over the past seven decades.

At the same time, here in America, we must resist those voices who seek to diminish our historic friendship with Israel. "As President Trump said in Jerusalem last May, "...let us never forget that the bond between our two nations is woven together in the hearts of our people - and their love of freedom, hope, and dignity for all".

Israel said on Wednesday it had found explosives hidden in a Palestinian truck that were due to be smuggled from the occupied West Bank and used in an attack on the Jewish state's Independence Day.

Netanyahu also encouraged more countries to move embassies to Jerusalem and thanked for U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to move the embassy to Jerusalem.
