Lionel Messi would welcome the addition of Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona's ranks as the France forward prepares to reveal where he will plying his trade next season. Barca hope to sign him on July 1, when his release clause drops to €100 million, while Atletico are trying to convince him to stay by offering an improved contract.
Asked if Griezmann is the top summer target Barca need, Messi told Spanish newspaper Sport: "I don't know if he's a priority".
Catalunya Radio reported that Barca remain confident of signing Griezmann as coach Ernesto Valverde was reassured by the club's hierarchy over a meal last week that the forward would be part of his squad next season.
'I am in agreement that to win the Champions League again we need to have the best players.
Should he make the switch, Griezmann would add further star power to an attack that already includes Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele.
"Despite what happened in the Champions League, the season was really good".
The 27-year-old, who could also decide to shun any suitors and extend his four-year stay with Atletico Madrid, is set to announce his intentions before France begin their World Cup campaign against Australia next Saturday.
"It's good that you're taking an interest", Griezmann said after France's 1-1 friendly draw with the U.
'There's a week to go. "I think we will find out this week".
