Whenever a show blows up in the way "Stranger Things" has, there's usually merchanside to go with it.
Netflix and Random House have partnered on a series of books, with Stranger Things: World Turned Upside Down: The Official Behind-The-Scenes Companion and a "hardcover gift book for young readers" due out in autumn.
The first of these books will be a prequel novel that will give the audience the back story for Eleven's mother, Terry Ives.
The third season of Stranger Things officially kicked-off production in April, with Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Noah Schnapp, Cara Buono, Dacre Montgomery, and Sadie Sink all returning.
The prequel will be released in early 2019, will follow Eleven's mother and the MKUltra Program. Project MKUltra, which was an actual Central Intelligence Agency program, is how Eleven got her mental powers while being experimented on under the watchful eye of the nefarious Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine).
Gwenda Bond, who is known for her body of work in young adult literature including Girl on a Wire and Lois Lane: Fallout, will write the prequel.
A new Stranger Things book series is on the way.
It'll be a long wait until Stranger Things season 3 arrives sometime in 2019, but how about a little bit of...unusual reading to bide the time?
The Stranger Things books will initially be released under the USA and British Commonwealth publishing teams of Del Rey Books, Random House Children's Books, Cornerstone Publishing, and Penguin Random House Children's UK.
