RANGERS Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of 21-year-old Croatian defender Nikola Katić from Slaven Belupo on a four-year deal.

The 6ft 4in former Under-21 internationalist is highly rated in his homeland and was capped for the first time by Croatia's senior side in a friendly against Mexico in May 2017.

However, the Ibrox side have won the race to sign the highly-rated defender, who has already been capped for his nation in a friendly against Mexico previous year.

He joined Slaven Belupo in January 2016 and made 34 appearances last season as the club from Koprivnica finished seventh in the Croatian top flight. The Daily Record recently reported that Connor Goldson is close to joining from Brighton, so perhaps the Gers could have a new look first-choice centre-back partnership next season.

Gerrard is determined to install a strong spine to his side and the addition of another imposing centre-back is key.

Katic is the fifth summer signing for Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard, following deals for Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, Jamie Murphy and Ovie Ejaria.
