Lewis started one game as a sophomore last season. He returned late in the season, appearing in the Iron Bowl and the College Football Playoff while registering 16 tackles (two for loss) and a sack on the season. Saban went on to say the former 5-star recruit underwent successful surgery on Tuesday and the time frame for his return is unknown at this time.
The injury is certainly a hit to the Tide's defensive depth ahead of the 2018 season, putting increased pressure on Christian Miller, Mack Wilson, Anfernee Jennings, Dylan Moses and others. The Tide can only hope it's not indicative of another wave of injuries, similar to the one they suffered past year, when 14 defensive players missed a combined 40 games during the regular season.
