"The Secretariat of the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has invited me to attend the swearing in ceremony of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister of Pakistan on August 18 at Islamabad", Sidhu said.

"For this, we have taken several well-known initiatives from the beginning of our term".

Pakistan had welcomed Prime Modi's congratulatory phone call to PTI chief Imran Khan and said it wanted resumption of bilateral talks which were halted in 2015.

Prime minister Narendra Modi and India hoped for peace and development with its neighbour.

Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party said the entire squad that Khan captained to victory in the 1992 World Cup were invited to the ceremony, as well as Indian cricket greats Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Navjot Singh Sidhu.

India also skipped the 2016 Saarc summit in Islamabad after a terrorist attack on an army garrison in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, left 18 soldiers dead.

Earlier in the day, the Election Commission of Pakistan accepted the unconditional written apology from Khan for violating the secrecy of the ballot, removing the last possible hurdle in his swearing-in.

Imran Khan will take oath in a simple ceremony at President House.

. "We should sit across (the table) and resolve the issues instead of we blaming India for problems in Balochistan and they blame us for problems in Kashmir".
