Unbeknownst to Noctis, however, the journey ahead is fraught with perils...

During the Direct, we learned that Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is out right now on Switch with World of Final Fantasy: Maxima making its way to the console in November.

Watch the launch trailer below.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition had also already been announced, at a PlayStation event earlier in the week, but it will also be coming to Switch next year, complete with online multiplayer and new areas.

These are remasters of the original versions - so not the upcoming remake of Final Fantasy VII - but it will be the first time any of them have been on a Nintendo console. I for one am beyond relieve to see Square Enix finally supporting Xbox with their re-releases and remasters, and this certainly makes it likely the developmentally-challenged FF7 remake will come our way as well. PS1 landmarks Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX, as well as PS2-era classics Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 - both in their revamped form thanks to a 2013 HD remaster - all will land on the Switch sometime next year. Additionally, what about all of those Final Fantasy games that appeared on Nintendo hardware? This version will allow you to "befriend all the monsters", as well as play co-op with a buddy.

Final Fantasy 7 is out now for PC, PS1, PS4, iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch.
