Fossil's first smartwatch based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform was launched today as the Fossil Sport, boasting an ultra-lightweight design and a wide range of color choices, some of which are now available for purchase online from the watchmaker's official website.
The company says the 350 mAh unit, with the help of Wear 3100, will be able to eke out a day of life based on the "full smartwatch experience", which we assume includes some HR tracking and Global Positioning System. The newly redesigned Google Fit app will be a great companion to the Fossil Sport along with the snappy Snapdragon 3100.
Fossil Sport seems to have a few things going for it: It's not too expensive at $255 (about £200 or AU$350), it claims to be the lightest Wear OS watch and it has lots of extras. As typical, there are two sizes to choose from - 41mm and 43mm - both of which come with a nylon and aluminium case.
Sitting alongside the bigger battery is the same crop of features and sensors we've seen flood the fourth generation of Fossil Group devices - a heart rate monitor sits on the underside, while NFC for contactless Google Pay payments and built-in Global Positioning System are also on board. It's also running the revamped Wear OS that just started rolling out in September. It is available as of now on Fossil.com, and it will become available in select Fossil brand stores around the world starting November 12. But the Fossil Sport at least sounds like it's not outrageously priced.
