Mayfield, Chubb Push Browns Past Falcons

Postado Novembro 14, 2018

CLEVELAND - At least twice against the Cleveland Browns, the Atlanta Falcons put pass-rushers Vic Beasley Jr., Takk McKinley, and Bruce Irvin on the field at the same time.

"We've got to do a better job, offensively", Jones said. I thought they played really well and made a lot of good plays. We just have to find ways to go out there and attack Cover 2. "So it's on us to go out there and make something happen". The issue was that with the Falcons trailing in the game they had to go for it on fourth down, limited the opportunities for Tavecchio.

The loss leaves the Falcons at 4-5 and all but eliminates them from the NFC playoff picture.

The Browns can not improve upon that in the much-needed bye week. Right before halftime while clinging to a 10-7 lead and the Browns driving, Mayfield found Nick Chubb on a screen pass into the end zone for a touchdown.

Atlanta receiver Julio Jones had 107 yards and became the fastest player to reach 10,000 yards receiving with a 30-yard catch in the second quarter. Still, this wasn't the same explosive offense that had folks signing offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian's praises after last week's 38-point outburst at Washington.

He cut toward Atlanta's sideline, picked up a block and then showed his surprising breakaway speed while finishing the longest run in team history. "We didn't attack Cover 2 the way we're supposed to today". They do enter the Week 11 bye with the best record of any last-place division team. "We have to do better with transitional rushes".

Browns coach Gregg Williams typically plays an aggressive man-to-man scheme, but Williams made it clear he wanted to "stay on top" of Jones. Running four verticals is a Cover 2 beater.

Falcons: Host the Dallas Cowboys on November 18. Of course Ryan figured the offense would have better success in short-yardage scoring situations. We didn't play up to the standard that we are capable to playing. T.J. Carrie played hard all day and rookie Denzel Ward did his part as the talented cornerback duo slowed down the hot Falcons receivers.

Chubb's 92-yard run in the third quarter gave the Browns a 28-10 lead and broke Bobby Mitchell's 90-yard record that had stood since 1959.

But at the moments when Atlanta needed to get stops the most, they didn't come. The Falcons had no sacks and no quarterback hits on Browns rookie QB Baker Mayfield, who completed his first 13 passes. "That's tough to see and tough to say".

"I thought they did a good job", he said. When that respect is well enough, maybe they might even like each other later on, but there has to be a respect of those and us together with coaches and players that we both are on the same page and we know what we are doing for things to grow.

Guys were ticked off in the locker room.
